A Year of Impact, Growth, and Gratitude

At Ronald McDonald House Charities of Oregon & SW Washington, every year is a testament to the power of community, compassion, and unwavering support. In 2024, we continued to build on that foundation, ensuring that every family facing a child’s medical crisis had a place to rest, connect, and find comfort—free of chargefor as long as they needed.

This year, our commitment has only grown stronger. Whether it’s a warm meal shared between parents, a moment of joy for a child in a tough season, or a welcoming space that feels like home, every detail reflects our mission: to be there for families, in every way that matters.

Together, we are making a difference—one family, one meal, one night of rest at a time.

“RMHC was better than a home while my boys were in the NICU for 58 days. The House was full of amazing people who I didn’t have to hide my tears from. They were the most supportive and kind group of people you could ever imagine. I didn’t have to worry about anything while there. I would have been sleeping on the hospital floor if RMHC wasn’t there for me! I owe them big time!”

“Getting to stay at RMHC is such a blessing. We’ve been staying at both Portland Houses for almost six years. Our kids Hunter and Delylah were born with very rare genetic disorders, and no specialist in Southern Oregon can treat them. We feel so at home at RMHC. Thank you for all you do.”

“My daughter was born with a laryngeal cleft and we have traveled from our home in Roseburg to Portland a multitude of times since her birth for medical appointments and surgeries. The staff at the RMHC were so friendly and inviting and calmed my anxieties of asking for help. It is so heartwarming to come back from a long day of appointments and enjoy a home-cooked meal together with my family and others in the House. Thank you so much for all you do.”

“We first started our journey at the Springfield Ronald McDonald House when my youngest spent 27 days in the NICU, and then we experienced the South Waterfront House when my daughter was life flighted for respiratory failure due to having a very rare condition. I do not know what we would have done if it wasn’t for the Ronald McDonald House. Thank you for welcoming us and giving us a comforting place to be while our children receive medical care.”

Launching a $2.5 Million Renovation of our East House

Since opening its doors in 1997, our Portland East Ronald McDonald House has been a sanctuary for families facing pediatric medical crises, providing warmth, comfort, and care when they need it most. But after decades of serving thousands of children and families, our House is urgently in need of renovation.

To better serve the evolving needs of families, we launched a $2.5 million East House Capital Campaign in 2024—a transformative effort to expand, update, and enhance our guest suites, kitchen, and community spaces. Thanks to incredible community generosity, we’re nearly halfway to our goal, but we need your help to cross the finish line!

With construction set to begin in mid-2025, your support today is crucial. Together, we can ensure that the East House continues to provide hope, healing, and a home for families facing medical crises.

“Our family stayed at Portland East House twice this year and were blessed by “one less thing to worry about.” Our kids earned money and chose to give a portion of their earnings to you!”

– RMHC Guest Family

Across our four Oregon Ronald McDonald Houses, we strive to create more than just a place to stay—we provide a true home away from home. With inviting spaces, well-stocked community areas, and thoughtfully maintained rooms, every detail is designed to offer families a sense of comfort and relief during an incredibly challenging time. And with each night of rest provided at no cost, we’re honored to give parents and children the peace of mind they deserve.

More Than a Meal—A Commitment to Care

At RMHC Oregon, we believe that a warm meal is more than just nourishment—it’s comfort, connection, and care. That’s why we’ve made a steadfast commitment to fully feed every family who stays with us, morning, noon, and night. Whether it’s a weekday breakfast before a hospital visit, a weekend dinner shared among new friends, or a holiday meal that brings a sense of home, our Meals from the Heart program ensures that no family has to worry about where their next meal will come from.

As the second largest part of our budget after housing, this program is more than a necessity—it’s a reflection of our mission. We work hard to ensure that every meal is culturally relevant, nourishing, and accessible, providing not just sustenance but also a moment of respite. And beyond the food itself, these meals foster connection, bringing together families, volunteers, staff, and supporters in shared experiences that remind us all: we’re in this together.

Hospitality à la Carte

Our Hospitality à la Carte program brings the heart of our mission beyond our Houses and directly to hospital hallways. With our signature carts stocked with comfort items, snacks, and essential care supplies, we deliver moments of relief and support to families right at their child’s bedside. This simple yet powerful act of hospitality offers a much-needed bright spot in their day—because even in the hardest moments, a little comfort can make all the difference.

Celebrating 50 Years of RMHC

In 1974, the doors of the first ever Ronald McDonald House opened in Philadelphia thanks to the incredible leadership of Dr. Audrey Evans and with support from our founding and forever partner, McDonald’s. Since then, RMHC has expanded our mission around the world, providing essential services that remove barriers, strengthen families and promote healing when children need healthcare.
