WHAT WE DO
Keeping families together while kids receive hospital treatment
Just like in your house, in a Ronald McDonald House there is always something going on. Our families, like yours, are real people who have to do laundry, help their kids with homework, and want a warm, home-cooked meal at the end of the day. After a long day at the hospital, or in treatment, cooking and preparing food is often low on a long list of priorities. The Meals from the Heart Program eases this burden by providing meals completely free of charge to the kids and families who are staying with at RMHC. Your invaluable contribution of a warm dinner or quick lunch provides comfort to our overwhelmed families and helps us to make our Houses a true “home away from home”.
There are many ways to contribute to the Meals from the Heart Program. Gather at team of up to 4 of your friends, family, or coworkers and choose the opportunity that works for you. No matter your schedule, cooking abilities, or interest there is a Meals from the Heart project with your name on it.
Meals from the Heart Dinner:
Your group can provide our exhausted families with the chance to spend a couple extra moments focusing on each other over relaxing and delicious dinner. The opportunity to serve dinner is available every night of the week at all three of our houses; Portland East House, Portland West House, and our Bend House.
Parents and families can seek a moment of peace in the middle of a hectic day by returning to the house for a hearty lunch prepared by you and your team. Come make lunch and provide comfort to our families Monday-Friday at either our East or West Portland Houses.
Our families can always rely on us, thanks to our Freezer Friends, who help to prepare storage-friendly meals that can be popped in the oven on short notice. Freezer meals can be prepared any day of the week at any of our three houses; Portland East House, Portland West House, and our Bend House.
Your group can create a weekend brunch and offer our families the comfort of home and a little treat to share together. A 10:00 am brunch can be served on Saturday or Sunday at our Portland East House.
Fill our pantry:
Frozen meals for individuals can provide fast energy for a single parent, quick snacks can help a family on the go, and baking supplies make sure that there is always the possibility of baked treats on the horizon. Check out our wishlist to see what food items we need for our Houses.
Other ways to help:
Even if you aren’t the world’s best cook or if you don’t have the time to prepare dinner or lunch you can still provide our families with a delicious and comforting meal.
