We would be honored to welcome and care for your family at any one of our four Oregon Houses. Every year RMHC of Oregon & SW Washington provides comfortable rooms, beautiful spaces, and a community of support to families who are traveling to receive medical care.

To qualify to stay at one of our Houses, families must have a patient who is 21 years or younger who is receiving care at a partner treatment facility and has a referral from a social worker or doctor at the facility at which the patient is receiving care. Please review our FAQ below for more information. 

Portland only – families must live 50 miles or more from the treatment facility at which they are receiving care.

  • Every guest family must pass a wellness screen upon initial check-in to ensure that they are symptom-free.
  • We recommend that all people in our Houses practice social distancing when possible.

To qualify to stay, families must meet all of these requirements:

  1. Families must have a patient who is 21 years or younger
  2. Families must be receiving treatment at a partner facility
  3. Families must have a current referral from the facility where they are receiving care
  4. At East House in Portland, the patient and guardian must live 30 or more miles from the facility where they are receiving care. (Portland only)
  5. At South Waterfront in Portland, the patient and guardian must live 50 or more miles from the facility where they are receiving care. (Portland only)

Also good to know:

  • Patients under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian
  • Patients 18-21 must be accompanied by a support person who is age 18 or older.
  • In Portland, families experiencing a high-risk pregnancy may request to stay up to two weeks before delivery date with a doctor’s recommendation. In Bend and Springfield, a family may stay at any high-risk point during pregnancy with a doctor’s recommendation.

It costs $0 to stay at our Oregon Ronald McDonald Houses. Donations of any amount are always greatly appreciated, but no family will ever be turned away based on their ability to contribute. 

  • Families who have a confirmed room must check into the House between 4:30-11:30pm
  • Once checked in, you may come and go as much as you please, provided that the room is used daily by a parent or legal guardian.
  • Please bring the patient’s Medical ID with you if your family is covered by a State Medicaid Insurance plan such as the Oregon Health Plan, Washington or Alaska Medicaid.
  • Upon check in, you will receive a check-in packet with House Guidelines and other helpful information. (Please review the section “Are there any House guidelines or rules I need to know before I arrive at the House?” to see additional information.)

In order to ensure the highest level of health and safety for all families staying at our Houses, we ask everyone to follow these rules:

  • Registered sex offenders are not permitted in our Houses, or on the premises, as guests, visitors, or volunteers.
  • We do not allow: alcoholic beverages, marijuana, weapons (including concealed permit weapons), illegal drugs, candles, or incense in the House.
  • Please leave these prohibited cooking devices at home including: hot plates, electric fryers, electric skillets, pressure cookers, and toaster ovens.
  • Smoking, vaping, and e-cigarette use in the House or on the property are not permitted.
  • Pets are not allowed in the House or in cars.
  • Unsafe, disruptive, or illegal behavior may be grounds for immediate eviction.
  • Children 12 and younger must be supervised by an adult at all times. Patients of any age and children 15 and younger may not be left alone on the property at any time.
  • Guest rooms can accommodate a maximum of six people.

Check-out is 12:00pm (noon)

The Bend House:

  • There are two RMHC golf carts available to help you make the .5 mile trip to St. Charles Medical Center.

The Portland East House:

  • Randall Children’s Hospital is a .1 mile walk from our East House.
  • Our Legacy security partners are often available to drive you to your appointment if needed.
  • The Kartini Clinic is less than 1 mile from the East House. You can drive, take public transportation, or walk to the facility.
  • OHSU/Doernbecher is located only 5 miles from the East House. You can drive yourself, take public transportation, or utilize our free taxi account for trips to or from the hospital.

The Portland South Waterfront House:

  • The OHSU Ariel Tram is less than .1 miles from our front door and you can ride free of charge while staying at RMHC. If the Ariel Tram is closed a free taxi may be provided.

The Springfield House

  • PeaceHealth Medical Center Riverbend is .2 miles from the Springfield House. You can easily walk or drive to your appointment.

Yes. There is free-of-charge parking for one vehicle at all four of our Houses. Please check with staff if you have additional parking needs.

Yes. The rooms in all four of our Houses can accommodate up to six people. Parents, guardians, siblings, or chosen family are welcome to stay if they are supporting the patient or the needs of the family.

Please be aware that children 12 and under must be directly supervised by an adult at all times while in the House. Children ages 13-15 must have an adult on the premises at all times but are not required to be directly supervised. Patients of any age may not be left alone in the house at any time.

At the South Waterfront House all guests over 18 years old are also required to bring photo ID for overnight stays.

Yes. Some day-visitors may be allowed to visit specific families staying at our Houses. Please check with staff upon check-in for more house-specific information.

Yes. These kitchens are equipped with all the tools and appliances you might need to cook your meal and have community pantries filled with free-of-charge ingredients and snacks.

Your room will also come equipped with a small microwave in all of our Houses and a small refrigerator at the Portland East, Portland South Waterfront, and Springfield Houses.

Yes. All four of our Houses have free-of-charge laundry rooms for your use, as well as free detergent.

Every one of our four Oregon Houses is a beautiful and unique reflection of the community it serves. Each House offers private rooms, a community kitchen, laundry rooms, and play areas for family.
